"December" Still Life, Giclée Print

I was inspired to create a series comprising 12 paintings, each dedicated to a specific month of the year, making use of subjects and colours that I associate with each month.

This is the first painting that I've created as I've come up with the idea before the new year but it is the one that finishes the series. The month of December is a time when we enjoy being indoors, and we find pleasure in the warmth of our homes. I have created my work to depict the beauty of that feeling. The smells of apple and cinnamon are also flavours that I associate with the month of December and I chose objects and colours to remind me of them.

 The focal point of the composition is the aged brown jug, reminiscent of an old-fashioned hearthside setting. It represents the enduring quality of tradition and the comfort found in familiar objects during the cold winter months. The apples, serve as a reminder of the abundance that can be found during the holiday season, while the bowl and spoon talk of nourishment and communal gatherings, highlighting the importance of sharing meals and moments of togetherness during this time of year. The viewer is encouraged to appreciate the comforts of the season and the beauty that can be found in the everyday, even during the coldest months of the year.
