"January" Landscape Giclée Print

I was inspired to create a series of 12 landscapes, one for each month of the year and to make use of subjects and colours that I associate with every month. Each work was completed en plein air, in one sitting. 

For "January" I chose Drinkfield Marsh Nature Reserve, near my home. I often take a walk there with my wife and our foster children. The air was cold and my hands were almost stiff after a few hours of painting outdoors. The still waters of the marsh reflect the muted tones of the surrounding landscape. The soft, overcast sky sets the mood and character of the scene and adds to the sense of cold and stillness that defines a January day. This work holds a special place in my heart as it was the start of the year long journey of creating the 12 landscapes and the cold I experienced made it a wonderfully intense and beautiful experience.
