"September" Still Life, Giclée Print

I was inspired to create a series comprising 12 paintings, each dedicated to a specific month of the year, making use of subjects and colours that I associate with each month.

This painting is the 9th in the series, representing September. I chose to re-create this image, which is very special to me as it is a picture that has been on the wall, in my parents' kitchen, since before I was born. I grew up seeing this image everyday and even though so many things have changed since I was young, the fact that this image is still there, creates a stronger connection between me and the house in which I grew up. The month of September is associated with the time of harvest and the subject of the painting matches this theme very well. I especially liked the idea of abundance, challenging its capacity. For that same reason, I wanted to keep the colours as rich and vibrant as possible, that evoke a sense of prosperity. The green at the bottom and the white, delicate embroidery reflect a sense of peace and beauty, two of the things that I associate with a welcoming and nurturing home.
